Why imperfection, creativity, and humanity matter in a tech-driven world
As part of my New Year’s resolutions, I plan to write a weekly blog about my day-to-day life as a professional and, most of the time, as a storyteller. Some of you may know me from my superb work as a software engineer, but I am quite more than a young, talented computer scientist (I’m just joking around with the titles—nowadays, everyone gives themselves quirky job titles. Guess that’s just LinkedIn culture).
In this globalized and over-connected world, it’s easy to feel impostor syndrome. Apparently, you have to be an expert in anything you want to share on social media—everything has to be perfect. But we forget that we are just people: we’re imperfect, and that’s beautiful.
Do you remember the time when uploading funny videos to YouTube was a thing? When you posted your morning coffee on Instagram with over-the-top filters? When you used Facebook to connect with your aunt in another country? Back then, everything was so simple—apps had specific purposes, and most of them were just for fun.
Then, one day, someone decided to turn their hobby into a business, creating rules and “algorithms” for using social media and the internet in general. Now, you need a social media presence, or you don’t exist. Somewhere along the line, a fun space turned into… work.
C’mon, now your YouTube videos have to be movie-quality just to get views and monetize. You need to be a marketing expert, community manager, reel-format filmmaker, and sell something on Instagram so you don’t waste anyone’s time. And don’t forget: convert your streaming recordings into bite-sized videos for Facebook so you can—yes, you’re right—earn money.
Yeah, yeah, I hear you: “Man shouts at cloud.” I know those are the rules of the game today, and you can either play or watch everyone else play. Well, I’m going to try to do both. You see, there’s something I love more than ideologies: money. But I also want to be creative.
I know I’m not an expert at everything, but I still want to try:
Things I’m Not (And That’s Okay)
Voice Actor: I dabble in voiceovers as a hobby.
Actor: I took acting classes last year, and they helped me express emotions that words couldn’t capture.
Singer: Karaoke (or the car, or my house) is my stage—shameless and proud!
Psychologist: I care deeply about mental health and try to empathize with people’s emotions because that’s what makes us human.
English Native Speaker: But trust me, I’ll do whatever it takes to communicate clearly. (And I promise I won’t be a jerk if you want to practice Spanish with me!)
Filmmaker: I consider myself a content creator and will keep pushing to deliver higher-quality educational (or at least entertaining) content.
Book Writer: Writing this blog is my step toward sharing my thoughts, experiences, and dreams. If you’re enjoying it, let me know in the comments—it wouldn’t be possible if I hadn’t dared to start.
(Wait a second, catching my breath here… ay, estuvo chingón sacar todo eso de mi mente.)
Okay, let’s keep writing.
This isn’t just another motivational post telling you why you should wake up at 5 a.m., spend three hours at the gym, run 10 kilometers (or miles, do the conversion), take a cold shower, become a 10x engineer, be a CEO, and join YC to succeed in life.
If that’s what you want, go for it. But I want to dive deeper—explore the human side of computer science, the complexity of our minds, the essence of our souls, and the creativity in our mistakes.
Yes, I’ll talk about professional things (most of the time), but I don’t want to repeat what everyone else is saying on social media. I don’t want to become a living “repost” button. I want to share my own identity, ideals, principles, and beliefs—whatever happens in my day-to-day life.
I hope you enjoy reading this blog as much as I’m enjoying writing it.
Feel free to share your own perspectives on the topics I covered. You don’t have to agree with me (though, if you do, a sugar-free chocolate might mysteriously make its way to you). I just want to hear your voice—or, in this case, read your words.
This blog is my creative playground—a space where I can be raw, honest, and unapologetically (I had to google that) imperfect. I’m here to share my ideas, stories, and experiments with no pressure to be an expert at everything. It’s about embracing the human side of our work, our passions, and even our quirks.
If there’s one thing I’ve learned, it’s that the world doesn’t need more perfection—it needs more people willing to be themselves. So, let’s build this space together. Whether you agree with me (though, if you do, a sugar-free chocolate might mysteriously make its way to you), challenge me, or just share a laugh, your voice matters here.
What about you? What’s something you’ve always wanted to try but haven’t dared to yet? Share it in the comments—I’d love to hear your story.
Here’s to being human in a digital world, finding joy in imperfection, and maybe snagging a sugar-free chocolate or two along the way.
